Choosing the right grip tape

Five tips to consider when choosing your grip tape.
- Differentiation of grip tape types:
- Overgrip: Wraps over the existing grip to provide additional support and sweat absorption without significantly increasing the thickness of the grip. Ideal for players who want to change grips after a short period of time.
- Replacement Grip: Replaces the racket's original grip and is thicker than an overgrip, providing more cushion and comfort.
- Terrycloth (towel grip): Made of terry cloth, it offers excellent sweat absorption. It's especially suitable for players who sweat a lot and prefer a soft, comfortable grip.
- Sweat absorption and comfort:
- Players who sweat heavily during play should consider grips with high sweat absorption. A terry cloth or absorbent overgrip can be helpful here. It ensures a dry grip and reduces the risk of the racket slipping from the hand. For all customers who use terry cloth grips, we recommend purchasing Yonex Grip Powder. This talc/resin mixture improves grip on the racket, ensuring optimal feel.
- Grip thickness and playing style:
- The thickness of the grip should be adjusted to your individual playing style and hand size. A thicker replacement grip offers more cushioning and is suitable for players who prefer more cushioning, while a thinner overgrip provides better control and a more direct feel to the racket.
- Durability and maintenance:
- A replacement grip is generally more durable than an overgrip , which should be replaced regularly. For frequent players, it's important to monitor grip wear and replace it as needed to maintain playing quality.
- Personal preferences and feel:
- Every player has a different feel for the perfect grip. Some prefer the softness of terry cloth , others the direct feedback of a thin overgrip . It may be helpful to try different types of grip tape to find your personal preference.
